Project Goal
Adopt electric school bus fleet and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capability to meet the Cajon Valley Union School District’s sustainability goals, reduce student exposure to harmful pollutants created by diesel buses and ensure seamless transportation operations.

DETAILS
– Five-year SDG&E pilot project
– Funded in part by EPA Diesel Emissions Reduction Act, California Air Resources Board Carl Moyer Program and SDG&E
– CVUSD 1st fleet in Southern California to deploy V2G under the Emergency Load Reduction Program (ELRP) during historic 10-day extreme heat event in Sept. 2022
– Six 60kW bidirectional DC fast chargers in the CVUSD bus yard and several Level 2 wall chargers were installed for resiliency purposes
– Eight ESBs retrofitted with bidirectional, onboard inverters
– Providing 24, 28 or 45 kW of power to the grid via V2G at a rate of $2/kWh during grid emergencies under ELRP during May to October
Demonstrate:
– Revenue opportunity via V2G for CVUSD
– Grid resiliency via V2G for SDG&E and California Independent System Operator (CAISO)
– Cost optimization via charge management and time of use optimization
